Day 1: Marrakech –High Atlas mountains- Telouate- Ait Benhaddou – Draa Valley – Zagora
On the first day of the Marrakech to Erg Chegaga desert trip, you will start the journey from your Riad or hotel in Marrakech where our driver will pick you up at 8:00 am sharp and continue driving to Telouate via the Tichka Pass by making the way through the stunning High Atlas mountains which is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world. Thus you’ll have plenty of time to admire the views until you reach the next destination.
Next, you will visit the Kasbah of Telouet, a must-see for any traveler to Morocco. This imposing structure sits in the village of Telaoute, nestled outside the Onilla Valley.
Where you will visit the Kasbah which is in a state of ruin but still retains its original grandeur so you can explore its sprawling complex, which includes a series of courtyards and rooms. However, this luxurious Palace once belonged to the Pacha of Marrakech named as Pacha Glaoui in the 20th century who ruled this region for many years. The views from the top of the Kasbah are breathtaking and well worth the climb.
After that, you will continue driving to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. However, this hillside assembly of several multi-storied adobe granaries is one of the most popular film locations in Morocco, having been featured in movies such as Jewel of the Nile, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. You will stop there to discover this ancient fortified city and learn about the history of this city from the locals.

Day 2: Zagora – Mhamid –Tamegroute- Sacred Oasis – Erg Chigaga Dunes
After a scrumptious breakfast in Zagora’s hotel, you will continue the Marrakech to Erg Chigaga desert adventure through the palm groves-lined Draa valley.
After a short break in the panoramic view of Draa palmeraie, you will head east to Tamgroute to visit the famous Koran library and an underground Kasbah, you will continue to M’Hamid; a small village – the last town and the major Draa oasis before the Erg Chegaga magical Sahara dunes.

After a long drive of 60 km from M’hamid, you will finally reach the Erg Chegaga dunes and get amazed by the beauty of the largest and major erg of Morocco located in the Drâa-Tafilalet area. Once you arrive at the dunes, you will be able to see the sunset over the horizon while doing camel trekking for 40 min.
After the sun sets, you can head to your traditional desert camp for a night’s stay at the foot of the dune where you will be facilitated with traditional Moroccan tea and a hot and tempting dinner. Day 3: Erg Chigaga Dunes – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll depart via the old Paris-Dakar race road. This road was once the main route between the two cities but is now only used by the occasional 4×4 or campervan. The road is in surprisingly good condition considering its age and the number of vehicles that must have used it over the years.
As you drive, you’ll pass through some of the most beautiful desert scenery in the world. The landscape is constantly changing, with huge sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and small oases all appearing in quick succession. You’ll also get the chance to see some of the local wildlife, with desert foxes, lizards, and snakes all making an appearance.
After a few hours of driving, you’ll reach the Iriqui lake. This naturally dried lake is a stunning sight, with its white sandy shores and crystal clear water.
You’ll stop here for lunch, before continuing on to Taznakht which is a small town located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. and famous for its carpet and textile industry
